I also had a choir member, when I was in Phoenix, who was in one of the casts for a year or two (I probably mentioned that.) Interesting times we've lived in. The music was always inspirational - I guess from time to time it's good to sort out the question, "inspired for what?" I still see bumper stickers that say "Freedom Isn't Free," and the thought doesn't inspire me toward the peaceable kingdom! :) Thanks again, TC, for writing. Up With People originated in Moral Re-Armament (it was 'born' at a MRA Youth Rally in Mackinaw, MI) and became an independent educational corporation in 1968. It was called 'Sing Out '65', 'Sing Out '66' prior to becoming 'Up With People'. It was never "Sing Out America' -- there were usually students from over 20 countries in the casts of Up With People. I know this because I took a leave of absence from Seton Hall University Divinity School (a part of the Immaculate Conception Seminary of the Archdiocese of Newark) and traveled with one of the casts in 1968 and 1969, but before and after the split from MRA. I'm also a Gemini and like Kingston Trio, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bach, Mozart...and Cooney. I'm surprised they didn't have a song titled "Don't Be Weird, Shave that Beard!"Mr Screenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12911735128118176096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7318545864976505075.post-38072981238640387582013-02-10T11:41:49.774-06:002013-02-10T11:41:49.774-06:00Loved this sentimental journey down memory lane, R...Loved this sentimental journey down memory lane, Ror. I somehow had the idea that the rehearsals were off limits to us seminarians—must have been the guilty thrill of having pretty girls on a campus lacking even a women's restroom. I never heard Fr. Ready's take on those lyrics, but it sounds perfectly in character. I do recall singing their theme song with Gerry Ramos as "Up yours with people."Mr Screenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12911735128118176096noreply@blogger.com
